Thirty Day Movie Challenge Day1:

Favorite Movie: Special

You know how people sometimes say that a song or a book was written for them and they develop an emotional connection to like as if it was a gift from God just for them. That’s how I feel about this movie. I connect with on so many different levels.

It’s about a comic book nerd and meter maid named Les. He is unappreciated at work, his only friends are a pair of  stoners that work at a comic shop and he has a crush on a girl that won’t talk to him. He volunteers to test a new drug. The intended effects of drug are not clear, but some after taking it he develops superpowers such as flight, telekinesis and the ability to run through walls. So like any good member society with new found powers to fight crime and make his life better.

Unfortunately that doesn’t happen his life only gets worse, because his powers are complete bull shit. He has no powers, it’s all in his head. It’s all hallucinations. Now he just looks a like a crazy guy running around tackling strangers. Which looks bad for the drug company so they send two executives to stop him, but he won’t be stopped. He can be stopped because he is special.

This movie is great comedy with a lot of heart. With some heart warming and heart breaking moments. Although you have to be a real comic book reader to get most of the jokes. Micheal Rapports performance as a social outcast is spot on. This movie shows that he can play drama as well as comedy. I love this movie

Honorable mentions: Fight Club, Black Swan, and American Psycho.
